Rapidly publishing gold open access research in acoustics

Since 2006, the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America Express Letters has published as a section of JASA. We’re excited to announce that, beginning in January 2021, JASA Express Letters will re-launch as an online-only, gold-open access journal. As a new stand-alone journal, JASA Express Letters will bring significant and attractive benefits to authors. See here for the full list of new features.

Just as before, the new JASA Express Letters will provide rapid and open dissemination of important new research results and technical discussion in all fields of acoustics. It will serve physical scientists, life scientists, engineers, psychologists, physiologists, architects, musicians, and speech communication specialists who wish to quickly report the results of their acoustical research in letter-sized contributions.

Article Charges and Author Benefits

The Article Processing Charge (APC) will increase to 900 USD for ASA members and 1200 USD for non-members; however, for the first year, the APC will be discounted to 750 USD for ASA members and 900 USD for non-members. These promotional rates will apply to any manuscript published in 2021.

Authors publishing in the new JASA Express Letters will benefit from the following:

  • Creative Commons Licensing so authors retain full copyright of their work and researchers can freely re-use material with proper attribution
  • Increased page length from 6 to 7 pages
  • Additional article types such as tutorials
  • Reduced APC for ASA members
  • Special Issues – The new JASA Express Letters will periodically organize special issues on rapidly emerging topics in acoustics
  • More extensive promotion of authors’ papers on the journal website and social media


    For the remainder of 2020, any JASA Express Letters manuscript submitted before August 1, 2020 will publish in the JASA Express Letters section of JASA. All papers submitted on or after this date will be published in the new JASA Express Letters
